Reporting to the Director of Human Resourcesm the Payroll/HR Specialist performs the Human Resources department essential generalist functions (tasks/projects/assignments) in the areas of Payroll, Recruiting, Benefits, LOA Programs, HRIS, Communications, Employee Relations, Training, Organizational Development, Workers Compensation and General Administration.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process payroll using Paychex.
  • Maintain employee master file and update active employee data.
  • Auditing and preparation of timecards and summaries.
  • Prepare and process monthly health and welfare benefits, dues, garnishments, etc.
  • Process and submit payroll reconciliations.
  • Maintain payroll records and retention of documents.
  • Prepare reports as needed for management.
  • Administer pay and benefits including sections of union contracts.
  • Complete all statistical reporting and employment verifications
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
  • Verifies I-9 documentation and retention requirements.
  • Updates HR database with employee change requests and processes paperwork
  • Assists with recruitment and interview process.
  • Prepares new employee files, processes changes, and terminations.
  • Administers COBRA.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by managers
  • Assists in organizational training and development efforts.
  • Conducts new employee orientations
  • Tracks leaves and completes paperwork (FMLA, CFRA, etc.)
  • Assists with various research projects and/or special projects.

Educational/Professional Knowledge:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience in Human Resources/Payroll (Paychex preferred)
  • Strong computer skills in, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
